Take Advantage of Tourist Training

Friday January 9, 2004
Generally ignored - often with reason - by travelers, Greece does have an extensive train system running throughout the country.

In the past, most long-distance buses have been able to beat the time spent on the tracks, but this may be changing. Starting Monday, January 12th, the train trip from Athens to Thessaloniki will take advantage of a new route, cutting the journey to about four and a half hours instead of the six to seven it used to take. Now there's even more reason to include Thessaloniki in your trip - some Greeks even feel that Greece's second largest city is the true cultural capital of the nation.

This change also puts Mount Olympus, Dion, and Vergina within easier, cheaper reach to anyone who visits Athens.
