Travel News Update

Thursday December 11, 2003
Once again, workers are going on strike against the travel industry - this week, it's an additional action by Olympic Airways/Airlines employees. The impact on flights is not clear; it's likely that some flights will be affected. Prepare for potential delays and at least the occasional cancellation. Here's hoping it all gets settled soon.

Assuming you arrive at the airport, the next problem this week is a Greece-wide taxi strike. Unlike previous strikes, this one does not have an announced time limit so it could continue for days. If you normally rely on cabs for transportation in Greece, this may be the time to take destiny into your own hands and rent a car but review these road rules first.

As I've said before in this space, this is "strike season" in Greece - most of the tourists are gone and so the real impact on visitors is minimal. However, this doesn't help much if you're one of them. On flights, unless you enjoy exploring Greek airports at your leisure, call ahead for updates and try not to book tight connections.
