Athens' Citizens Get Shorted on Tree

It's official - this year, Athens will not be competing for the "Tallest Christmas Tree Display in Europe" award. After six years when a predecessor's controversial metal frame strung with lights assured Athens' place at the top, the current mayor has decided to scale things back down to a mere forty or so feet. Those who yearn for a return to the less-commercial observance of a Greek Christmas are breathing a sigh of relief.
