Is Greece Closed?

Sunday November 23, 2003
No, but some visitors with particularly unlucky itineraries may begin to feel that way. With pre-Olympic renovations underway across the country, combined with upgrades related to European Union access standards, many attractions in Greece are closed. To help keep track, here's a Site Closures in Greece List including museums and archaeological sites, along with the estimated reopening dates.

Note: Many hotels, primarily upscale ones, are also undergoing renovations prior to the Athens 2004 Olympics. If you've tried to book hotel rooms in Greece online and have received unexpected "no rooms available for that date" messages, that may be the reason why.
