Crete from space is silent Crete, no cooking smells or music; no shouting in the streets between the homes. No barking dogs or braying donkeys, or cats around my feet. No smiles or nods from strangers; no welcome from the heart. Crete from space is silent; too many miles apart.
I couldn’t agree with you more, Tony! But one thing I love about the pictures of Crete from space is how the entire island kind of looks like the running bulls that we see in Minoan art – there are the “horns” in the west, the “bull leaper” around Chania, and even the islands of Gavdos and Gavdoupoula etc. are in about the right place for “hooves”.
Hm. Maybe I do spend too much time looking at Crete when I’m not there …
